Most likely József (also Josef) Tóth was born in the village of Győrújbarát, Győr-Moson-Sopron County, Hungary.
Trezsi (also Trezsia, Teresia, Terezia, Therese, Theresa) Likaszi was born in 1852 (baptized on September 29, 1852) to Michael Likaszi and Anna Csapo in the village of Kisbaráthegy (now Győrújbarát), Hungary.
Jozsef and Theresa had at least seven (7) children all born in Hungary:
- Josef Toth (baptized on November 19, 1874 - March 19, 1945)
- Trezsi Toth (baptized on August 22, 1876)
- Ilona Toth (baptized on November 14, 1881)
- Mari Toth (baptized on June 18, 1885)
- Rozalia Toth (baptized on September 7, 1887)
- Bertalan Toth (baptized on September 1, 1889)
- Rozalia Toth (baptized on April 2, 1893)
After Theresa's husband died, her daughter Mary (Mari) and son-in-law, Joseph Solyom, brought her to the United States. Joseph and Mary Solyom, as well as Theresa's son Josef (Joseph) Toth lived in Indianapolis since the early 1900's.
Mary Toth and Joseph Solyom married on May 6, 1912 in Indianapolis.
According to his World War I Draft Registration Card dated June 5, 1917, Joseph and his wife Mary resided at 942 Concord Street, Indianapolis. He was already a naturalized US citizen. He was a driver on wagon at American Brewing Company in Indianapolis.
According to the 1920 US Federal Census, Joseph and Mary Solyom resided at 942 Concord Street, Indianapolis, in an owned (not rented) mortgaged home. Joseph, who was born in Hungary on August 17, 1886, immigrated to the US in 1902. Mary immigrated to America in 1909. Both were naturalized as US citizens in 1913. They were able to read and write. Joseph was a driver (water, Mt. Jackson ?).
According to Ellis Island records, Therese Toth departed the port of Southampton, England on November 19, 1921 onboard the S.S. "Carmania", and arrived to Ellis Island, New York on November 28, 1921. She was a 69 year-old widow.
Therese was a laborer. She was not able to read or write. Her last permanent residence in Hungary was Erzsebetfalva. The name and complete address of nearest relative or friend in country whence alien came: Janosne Cousine, Erzsebetfalva, Soroksoriat 7.
Therese was going to join her daughter (Mary) and her son-in-law, Joseph Solyom, at 942 Concord Street, Indianapolis, Indiana. She had a ticket to Indianapolis paid by her daughter, and $25 in her pocket.
Therese was 5'3" tall. She had fair complexion and hair, and blue eyes.
According to the 1930 US Federal Census, Theresa Toth lived with her son-in-law, Joseph Solyom, and daughter, Mary, at 775 Concord Street, Indianapolis. They lived in a $6,000 home they owned. There was a radio set in the house. They owned a grocery.
According to the Indianapolis City Directories of 1931, 1940, 1942, and 1945, and Joseph's U.S. World War II Draft Registration Card dated 1942, Mary and Joseph Solyom owned a grocery located at 775 N. Concord Street, Indianapolis. Telephone: BE. 2029.
Theresa Toth died of pneumonia on December 18, 1943 at the age of 91. She was buried at St. Joseph Cemetery in Indianapolis. She is sharing a tomb stone with her daughter Mary Solyom (Toth).
