Franz Strmljan (December 4, 1833 - November 1, 1912)
Agnes Flisek (December 29, 1831 - February 3, 1922)
Franz Strmljan was born to the family of Andreas Strmljan and Agnes Tizhar on December 4, 1833 in Šmartno pri Litiji parish, Slovenia. He was baptized the same day.
Prior to his marriage Franz Strmljan was a "½ Hübler" and he resided in the town of Tenetiše in house No.17.
Here is the explanation for "½ Hübler". The Austrians developed the word "hube" for a farmhouse with land. ½ hube = 2.8 acres. Thus "½ Hübler" is a farmer who owns 2.8 acres.
Agnes was born to the family of Franz Flisek (also Flissk) and Maria Čebular (also Tschebular) on December 29, 1831 in Javorje pri Litiji parish. Prior to her marriage she was a "½ Hüblers Tochter", and lived in Leskovica pri Šmartnem.
The explanation for "½ Hüblers Tochter": The Austrians developed the word "hube" for a farmhouse with land. ½ hube = 2.8 acres. Hübler - a man who owns a hube. In the German language the word "tochter" means daughter. Thus "½ Hüblers Tochter" is a farmer’s daughter - owner of 2.8 acres.
On November 5, 1855 Franz (22) and Agnes (24) married in the Javorje pri Litiji parish. After their marriage Agnes moved with Franz to house No.17 in Tenetiše, where Franz remained a "½ Hübler". All five children of Franz and Agnes were born in the same house in Tenetiše.
Their children:
- Franz Strmljan (born August 9, 1861)
- Franciska Strmljan *Šustar* (October 24, 1865 - 1940)
- Ivana Strmljan *Golobar, Božič* (June 21, 1868 - July 22, 1928)
- Catharina Strmljan (born November 14, 1872)
- Ignatius Strmljan (August 3, 1877 - April 13, 1955)
Franz Strmljan died on November 1, 1912 at the age of nearly 79 from dropsy "vodenica".
