Gradišče pri Vipavi is the ancestral village of Mary Elizabeth Mauser (Stanich).

The village traces its roots to the Hallstatt period. The Hallstatt culture was the predominant Central European culture from the 8th to 6th centuries BC (European Early Iron Age), developing out of the Urnfield culture of the 12th century BC (Late Bronze Age) and followed in much of Central Europe by the La Tène culture.

The name of the settlement was changed from Gradišče to Gradišče pri Vipavi in 1953. The village is included in the project Vipava wine road.

Gradišče at Vipava is a beautiful, Primorje region village, which lies beneath the steep slope of Nanos plateau in the Upper Vipava Valley.

The village is one of starting points to reach Nanos. It is very easy to get to Gradišče: just drive two kilometers out of Vipava to the parking place at the top of the village (240 m). This is the best starting point to walk to Gradiška Tura (761 m) and Plaz (529 m). You can choose between the easy or the more difficult climbing paths. One of the many paths to Vojkova koča on Nanos (1240 m) takes you by the Church of St. Nicholas.

In the rock faces of Gradiška Tura there is a famous climbing location with 196 climbs.
